Signing the Amendment
On July 5th, 1971, President Nixon signed the 26th Amendment into law. Even though it was not required, Nixon decided that three 18-year-olds who would be eligible for voting in the next election should witness the amendment. A large group of young adults watched as the three witnesses and President Nixon signed the 26th Amendment, certifying eleven million new voters. ("Twenty-Sixth")
